Tonsil Surgery in Bakersfield

Tonsil surgery is most often performed on children, but this procedure can be beneficial to patients of all ages. At Bakersfield Sinus Center, we offer this and other neck and head surgeries to the residents of Porterville, Bakersfield, CA and neighboring cities.

What is Tonsil Surgery?

Tonsil surgery, also called tonsillectomy, is a surgical procedure performed to remove the tonsils. The tonsils are located in the throat and the nasal cavity, and help prevent germs and bacteria from entering the body through the nose and mouth. Tonsils change in size over time, often starting larger in children and growing smaller as people age. Unfortunately, this means that many children experience infections and breathing problems due to large tonsils – especially those at the top of the throat.

Tonsil surgery removes tonsils that are causing breathing problems or sleep apnea, or those that are frequently becoming infected.

Why Choose Satish R. Vadapalli, MD for Your Tonsil Surgery?

Dr. Vadapalli specializes in head and neck surgery as well as many sinus and snoring treatments. With over two decades of experience, he is an ideal candidate for performing tonsil surgery and related procedures. No matter what treatment you are receiving, you can always expect the attentive and personalized care for which we are known.

What is the Tonsil Surgery Treatment Like?

Tonsil surgery is performed with general anesthesia. Once anesthesia is administered, incisions will be made around the tonsils so they can be completely removed. This is a common and fairly simple procedure, and most surgeries are completed in well under an hour.

What is the Tonsil Surgery Recovery Like?

After tonsil surgery, patients will be able to return home on the same day. Following the procedure, we recommend that patients drink lots of fluids and only consume softer foods until the mouth heals. Hard or crunchy foods will irritate the mouth and can restrict the healing process. We also recommend that patients rest as much as possible, taking time off of work, school and other activities for at least a few days.

What Results Can I Expect from Tonsil Surgery?

After tonsil surgery, the absence of tonsils should eliminate breathing difficulties as well as the risk of frequent infections. However, it is important to note that once tonsils are removed, the body is considerably more susceptible to germs and bacteria entering through the nose and mouth. It is important to discuss any concerns you may have with Dr. Vadapalli prior to your procedure.
