Lymph Node Surgery in Bakersfield

Lymph node surgery is a procedure designed to assess and treat cancer in the body. At Bakersfield Sinus Center, we are proud to offer this treatment to the residents of Porterville, Bakersfield, CA and nearby communities.

What is Lymph Node Surgery?

Lymph node surgery, also called lymphadenectomy, is a surgical procedure performed to remove lymph nodes. Lymph nodes are small organs found throughout the entire body, although they are mostly located in the neck, armpits, and groin. Many types of cancer spread through the lymphatic system. This means that assessing the lymph nodes is an effective technique for determining if cancer is spreading throughout the body. However, lymph nodes can often be directly affected by cancer themselves.

As a specialist of head and neck cancer treatment, Dr. Vadapalli often performs lymph node surgery on lymph nodes in the neck region. This is performed to address cancer in the lymph nodes or determine if cancer in the head and neck is beginning to spread.

Why Choose Satish R. Vadapalli, MD for Your Lymph Node Surgery?

Dr. Vadapalli specializes in procedures involving the head, neck, and the surrounding areas of the face. With over two decades of experience, he is an ideal candidate for performing lymph node surgery and related procedures. No matter what treatment you are receiving, you can always expect the attentive and personalized care for which we are known.

What is the Lymph Node Surgery Treatment Like?

Lymph node surgery is performed with general anesthesia to ensure your safety and comfort. During the procedure, once anesthesia is administered, Dr. Vadapalli will make a small incision in the area where your lymph node or lymph nodes are to be removed. After removing the lymph nodes, any incisions will be closed.

Following the procedure, the removed lymph nodes will be analyzed to determine if they contain any cancer cells.

What is the Lymph Node Surgery Recovery Like?

Lymph node surgery is a fairly minor procedure, but your recovery can vary depending on the location of the lymph node removal and the number of lymph nodes that were removed. Patients can expect soreness, swelling, and pain in the treatment area that may persist for a few weeks. We recommend resting at home for a few days in order to allow the body to heal. This means no driving, exercising, alcohol, or anything else that may restrain your body’s healing process.

What Results Can I Expect from Lymph Node Surgery?

It can take a few weeks to collect the results from the removed lymph nodes. If they are not found to be cancerous, you can continue focusing on healing from your procedure. However, if your lymph nodes are found to contain cancer cells, we will discuss further treatment options in order to eliminate any cancerous cells from the body.

If you are in need of lymph node surgery, contact us today at Bakersfield Sinus Center. We’ll be happy to help you schedule a consultation so that we can help you develop an effective treatment plan. We welcome patients from Bakersfield, Porterville, and the nearby communities of California.
