Sinus Infections in Bakersfield

Sinus infections are incredibly common, but that doesn’t mean that the symptoms aren’t both uncomfortable and inconvenient. At Bakersfield Sinus Center, we offer treatments to help patients in Porterville, Bakersfield, CA and surrounding communities, find relief from their sinus infections.

What Are Sinus Infections?

Sinus infections are also known as sinusitis, and are characterized by the inflammation of the sinuses that can cause an array of unwanted symptoms. When the sinuses become infected, often due to an infection such as a cold, the nasal tissue begins to swell. Then, mucus and other fluids can accumulate and congest the sinuses. This can result in symptoms that include:

  • Breathing difficulties
  • Runny nose
  • Sinus headaches

In order to effectively treat a sinus infection, it must be properly diagnosed. At Bakersfield Sinus Center, we offer sinus infection diagnosis and treatments to help patients find relief.

How Are Sinus Infections Diagnosed?

Sinus infections produce symptoms that are fairly common amongst other infections, such as the common cold. For that reason, they can be difficult to self-diagnose. If you are experiencing any of the symptoms listed above, we recommend visiting a medical professional to receive an accurate diagnosis and ensure that you receive the proper treatment.

Sinus infections are primarily caused by bacteria and congestion in the sinuses. When you visit Bakersfield Sinus Center, we assess your symptoms and perform an examination to determine the source of your sinus infection. Once we determine the primary cause, we can recommend a treatment that will work for you.

How Are Sinus Infections Treated?

The treatment of your sinus infection will depend on your diagnosis.

In most cases, we’ll recommend balloon sinuplasty for the treatment of sinus infections. This non-surgical treatment involves inserting a small balloon into the sinuses. Once the balloon is in place, it will be gently inflated to open up the nasal canals and the sinuses. This allows mucus and other fluids to drain from the sinuses, which typically relieves swelling and congestion.

In rare cases, sinus infections can be caused by nasal polyps, which are small growths of tissue that block air flow and cause congestion in the nose and sinuses. If your sinus infection is a result of a nasal polyp, we will recommend a polypectomy procedure to have it removed.

Can Sinus Infections Be Completely Cured?

At Bakersfield Sinus Center, our goal is to help you achieve an improved quality of life by providing long-term relief from sinus infections. However, the cause of your sinus infection will determine the extent and duration of the results you are able to achieve.

If your sinus infection is caused by a nasal polyp, the polypectomy procedure will permanently remove it and reduce your risk for sinus infections in the future.

If your sinus infections are caused by a build up of mucus or other fluids in the sinuses, the balloon sinuplasty treatment can provide quick and effective relief. However, it is important to note that treating a sinus infection cannot prevent it from developing again in the future. Since sinus infections can be caused by colds and other conditions, it is not possible to prevent them from recurring with a single treatment.
