If you are experiencing difficulty or pain when swallowing, you may want to consider treatment for swallowing disorders at Bakersfield Sinus Center. We are proud to offer these services to men and women living in Bakersfield and Porterville, CA.

What Are Swallowing Disorders?

Swallowing disorders are any conditions that make it difficult or painful to swallow. These conditions may affect you when eating, drinking, or even when you are just swallowing saliva. In any case, swallowing disorders can be uncomfortable and even dangerous. When swallowing disorders become severe, they can put you at risk for choking.

In order to effectively treat swallowing disorders, they must be properly diagnosed. At Bakersfield Sinus Center, we offer swallowing disorder diagnosis and treatment to help patients find relief.

How Are Swallowing Disorders Diagnosed?

Swallowing disorders are usually easy to identify due to their symptoms. While swallowing pain and difficulty can also be attributed to conditions like a sore throat, the feeling of a swallowing disorder is unique. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms without signs of infection, we recommend visiting a medical professional to receive an accurate diagnosis and ensure that you receive the proper treatment.

Swallowing disorders are primarily caused by growths of tissue in the throat. This can narrow the space in the throat, making it more difficult– and even painful – to swallow. When you visit Bakersfield Sinus Center, we assess your symptoms and perform an examination to determine the source of your swallowing disorder. Once we determine the primary cause, we can recommend a treatment that will work for you.

How Are Swallowing Disorders Treated?

The treatment of your swallowing disorders will depend on your diagnosis.

In most cases, when swallowing disorders are caused by tissue growth in the throat, we’ll recommend surgery to remove the responsible growth. However, since the throat is a sensitive and delicate area, we use an advanced surgical technique for your safety.

For these types of surgeries, we use the da Vinci surgical system. This is a surgery approach which enables us to perform surgery using small and precise tools, thanks to the advanced robotic system. Dr. Vadapalli controls all elements of the procedure from a machine, eliminating the need for more invasive, and thereby dangerous, techniques.

Can Swallowing Disorders Be Completely Cured?

At Bakersfield Sinus Center, our goal is to help you achieve an improved quality of life by providing long-term relief from swallowing disorders. However, the cause of your swallowing disorder will determine the extent and duration of the results you are able to achieve.

If your swallowing disorder is caused by tissue growth in the throat or neck area, the robotic surgery procedure will be able to fully eliminate the growth and restore your ability to swallow. As a result, you can enjoy long-lasting relief from your swallowing disorder. However, keep in mind that certain lifestyle habits and other factors can cause tissue growths to develop in the future. Should this happen and affect your swallowing ability again, you will need to receive additional treatment.
