Functional Rhinoplasty in Bakersfield

If you have suffered from a broken nose or a related injury, a functional rhinoplasty can help you restore the alignment and function of your nose. Bakersfield Sinus Center offers this procedure to patients living in Porterville and Bakersfield, CA.

What is a Functional Rhinoplasty?

A functional rhinoplasty is a type of nose surgery that is designed to correct the alignment of the nose or eliminate breathing difficulties. Functional rhinoplasty procedures may be necessary for patients who have suffered from a broken nose or who are experiencing breathing difficulties due to birth defects or other causes. The rhinoplasty treatment adjusts cartilage and bone to enhance air flow and improve the shape of the nose.

It is important to note that functional rhinoplasty is different from a traditional rhinoplasty or nose job, which is performed for strictly cosmetic reasons.

Why Choose Satish R. Vadapalli, MD for Your Functional Rhinoplsaty?

Dr. Vadapalli specializes in procedures involving the nose and the surrounding areas of the face. With over 20 years of experience, he is an ideal candidate for performing functional rhinoplasty and related procedures. No matter what treatment you are receiving, you can always expect the attentive and personalized care for which we are known.

What is the Functional Rhinoplasty Treatment Like?

The functional rhinoplasty treatment is a surgical procedure that is typically performed with general anesthesia. The first step of treatment, after anesthesia is administered, is to create incisions in the nose. In many cases, the only incisions required are placed on the inside of the nostrils. This means that there is no risk of visible scarring with the functional rhinoplasty procedure.

Once incisions are made, Dr. Vadapalli will manipulate and/or remove nasal bone and cartilage to correct the alignment of the nose. During this process, he will take special care to position the nose in a way that will encourage easy air flow through the nostrils. A rhinoplasty is a complex procedure, so it may take a few hours to perform.

What is the Functional Rhinoplasty Treatment Recovery Like?

After your functional rhinoplasty treatment, we will apply a bandage to the nose. You will be able to return home within a few hours, but please note that you will need somebody to drive you home. It is common for patients to experience swelling and varying levels of discomfort following their procedure. These effects will be most noticeable within the first few weeks of treatment, so you may need to take a few days away from work and other activities. It can take a few months for the nose to completely recover, but you should be able to return to all normal activities within about one month.

What Results Can I Expect from the Functional Rhinoplasty Treatment?

After your functional rhinoplasty, you can expect a noticeable improvement in your breathing ability. Many patients enjoy a reduction in breathing difficulties within days of treatment. If you are receiving treatment for a broken or dislocated nose, you will also enjoy an improved and more symmetrical appearance. These results will be permanent.
