Parathyroid Surgery in Bakersfield

If you are suffering from hyperparathyroidism or similar conditions, we may recommend parathyroid surgery. Bakersfield Sinus Center offers parathyroid surgery and other procedures to men and women residing in and around Bakersfield and Porterville, CA.

What is Parathyroid Surgery?

Parathyroid surgery is a surgical procedure performed to remove the parathyroid glands. The parathyroid glands are located on the thyroid gland, which is found in the neck. The parathyroid glands deliver calcium to your blood. If your calcium levels are too high or the parathyroid glands become enlarged or infected, it may be necessary to have them removed.

At Bakersfield Sinus Center, we are proud to offer parathyroid surgery to address tumors or enlarged parathyroid glands. This procedure can help patients address neck pain and other symptoms that are caused by enlarged parathyroid glands.

Why Choose Satish R. Vadapalli, MD for Your Parathyroid Surgery?

Dr. Vadapalli specializes in procedures involving the head, neck, and the surrounding areas of the face. With over two decades of experience, he is an ideal candidate for performing parathyroid surgery and related procedures. No matter what treatment you are receiving, you can always expect the attentive and personalized care for which we are known.

What is the Parathyroid Surgery Treatment Like?

Parathyroid surgery is performed using general anesthesia. Once anesthesia is administered, an incision will be made in the neck. This incision is typically about an inch long. Dr. Vadapalli does his best to hide this incision in a natural crease of the skin to minimize its visibility following the procedure. Once the incision is made, the affected parathyroid glands will be removed and the incision will be closed. This procedure typically takes about one hour to complete.

What is the Parathyroid Surgery Recovery Like?

Parathyroid surgery requires a brief recovery period of about one to two weeks. During this time, it is common to experience soreness and related effects in the neck area. Patients are encouraged to take some time off of work and other activities, although you can expect to resume these activities within a week or two. Any strenuous lifting and exercise should be avoided for at least a month.

What Results Can I Expect from Parathyroid Surgery?

After your surgery, we will monitor your calcium levels in order to determine the efficacy of treatment. If parathyroid surgery was not sufficient in relieving your symptoms, we will reassess your condition in order to develop a treatment plan that will be more effective.
