Sleep Apnea Surgery in Bakersfield
Sleep apnea is a serious sleeping disorder that can affect your health and quality of life. At Bakersfield Sinus Center, we offer sleep apnea surgery to patients in and around Bakersfield and Porterville, CA, who are looking for relief.
What is Sleep Apnea Surgery?
Sleep apnea surgery is a method of treating sleep apnea. If you suffer from sleep apnea, your breathing is interrupted at night due to an obstructed air flow. In extreme cases, this can cause the heart to stop, resulting in serious health risks.
Fortunately, there are a number of sleep apnea surgery techniques available to treat this condition. At Bakersfield Sinus Center, we try to avoid invasive surgeries whenever possible. For this reason, we are proud to offer sleep apnea surgery via robotic surgery or the Inspire implanted device.
Why Choose Satish R. Vadapalli, MD for Your Sleep Apnea Surgery?
Dr. Vadapalli specializes in procedures involving the nose, mouth, and the surrounding areas of the face. With over two decades of experience, he is an ideal candidate for performing sleep apnea surgery and related procedures. No matter what treatment you are receiving, you can always expect the attentive and personalized care for which we are known.
What is the Sleep Apnea Surgery Treatment Like?
Your sleep apnea surgery will vary depending on the type of procedure we recommend. Our recommendation will depend on the severity of your condition and other factors that we discuss during your initial appointment. We may recommend either robotic surgery or the Inspire implant.
Robotic surgery is surgery that is performed through the mouth. Since the air passageways in the back of the mouth are incredibly narrow, we use a robotic surgical device that is designed to safely and efficiently help us carry out the procedure. With advanced cameras and surgical devices, Dr. Vadapalli will use the robotic device to complete the surgery and eliminate any obstructions that are causing sleep apnea. This procedure is performed with general anesthesia and generally takes about two hours.
The Inspire implant is a device that is designed to replace the use of a CPAP. This device is implanted discreetly beneath the skin, where it delivers gentle signals to the mouth while you’re sleeping. These signals help the body maintain an open airway, protecting your ability to breathe normally throughout the night. The Inspire device is implanted during a brief outpatient procedure.
What is the Sleep Apnea Surgery Recovery Like?
The recovery from your sleep apnea surgery will vary depending on the treatment you receive. After robotic surgery, you can expect a sore throat for a few weeks following your treatment. In addition, you may need to take about a week off of work and other normal activities.
The Inspire implant treatment requires very little downtime. You may experience minor discomfort following your treatment, but you will be able to resume normal activities almost immediately after your procedure.
What Results Can I Expect from the Sleep Apnea Surgery Treatment?
With all sleep apnea surgeries, patients can expect an improved nights sleep – both in terms of safety and quality. Patients can expect to notice results from their robotic surgery after their initial recovery period. Patients receiving the Inspire implant often enjoy results within days of their procedure.
