Ear Pressure in Bakersfield
Ear pressure can have several causes. When caused by eustachian tube dysfunction, you may want to consider treatment at Bakersfield Sinus Center. We proudly serve patients from Porterville, Bakersfield, CA and neighboring cities.
What is Ear Pressure?
Ear pressure is a symptom that can be caused by a range of conditions. For example, ear pressure can be caused by an ear infection, which may also produce other symptoms. In this case, we’re referring to ear pressure that is caused by eustachian tube dysfunction.
Eustachian tube dysfunction occurs when the eustachian tubes get blocked. A buildup of fluids in the eustachian tubes can cause pressure, pain, and hearing difficulties.
How is Ear Pressure Diagnosed?
If you are experiencing pressure in the ears that is accompanied by hearing difficulties or pain, you may be suffering from eustachian tube dysfunction.
Common causes of eustachian tube dysfunction include colds, allergies, and other infections that lead to a buildup of mucus and tissue swelling. When you visit Bakersfield Sinus Center, we assess your symptoms and perform an examination to determine the source of your ear pressure. Once we determine the primary cause, we can recommend a treatment that will work for you.
How is Ear Pressure Treated?
The treatment of your ear pressure will depend on your diagnosis.
When treating eustachian tube dysfunction, it is possible that symptoms may resolve on their own over time. In mild cases, we may recommend medications or other simple at-home treatment methods.
In severe cases of eustachian tube dysfunction, we may recommend a eustachian tube balloon treatment, otherwise known as eustachian tuboplasty. This procedure enlarges the eustachian tubes to allow any fluid to escape, alleviating symptoms.
Can Ear Pressure Be Completely Cured?
At Bakersfield Sinus Center, our goal is to help you achieve an improved quality of life by providing long-term relief from ear pressure. However, the cause of your ear pressure will determine the extent and duration of the results you are able to achieve.
If your ear pressure is caused by ear infections or other conditions, we will recommend treatments that will address those conditions correctly, rather than looking for a solution to ear pressure.
If your ear pressure is caused by eustachian tube dysfunction, the eustachian tube balloon can immediately relieve symptoms and cure your ear pressure. However, it cannot prevent ear pressure from developing again in the future. Fortunately, if you achieve results with eustachian tuboplasty, you can expect the treatment to be effective in the future should you ever develop ear pressure again.
