Deviated Septum Treatment in Bakersfield

If you are experiencing breathing difficulties due to a deviated septum or an undesirable positioning of the septum, you may be able to benefit from a septoplasty. Bakersfield Sinus Center offers this treatment to residents of Porterville and Bakersfield, CA.

What is a Septoplasty?

Septoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to correct a deviated septum. The septum is a combination of bone and cartilage that separates your nostrils. When the septum is crooked, it can impact air flow through the nose, subsequently causing breathing difficulties. Many patients choose to pursue a septoplasty simply to enhance their quality of life and improve their breathing ability. However, in cases of severe injury or related incidents, a septoplasty may be recommended.

Why Choose Satish R. Vadapalli, MD for Your Septoplasty?

Dr. Vadapalli specializes in procedures involving the nose and the surrounding areas of the face. With this expertise, he is an ideal candidate for performing septoplasties and related procedures. No matter what treatment you are receiving, you can always expect the attentive and personalized care for which we are known.

What is the Septoplasty Treatment Like?

The septoplasty treatment is performed using either general or local anesthesia. The first step in the treatment, after anesthesia is administered, is to place incisions in the nose. These are placed inside the nostrils, so you don’t need to worry about developing any visible scarring from the septoplasty procedure.

Once incisions are made, Dr. Vadapalli will trim and/or reposition cartilage and bone in the septum. The exact techniques involved will depend on the severity of your deviated septum, and will be discussed with you at length prior to your procedure. Once the procedure is complete, a bandage is applied to the nose to provide support and minimize swelling.

What is the Septoplasty Recovery Like?

Although the septoplasty procedure involves surgical techniques, you can expect to return home the same day of your procedure. However, since both bone and cartilage are manipulated during treatment, it can take a few months to fully recover from septoplasty.

Depending on the extent of your surgery, you may need to limit physical activity and adjust other habits to facilitate the healing process. Dr. Vadapalli also recommends sleeping with your head in an elevated position following your procedure. This will help with swelling and any drainage that may occur.

What Results Can I Expect from a Septoplasty?

Many patients notice an improvement in breathing ability after healing from the septoplasty procedure. For most patients, septoplasty will completely eliminate breathing difficulties and enable them to enjoy an improved quality of life.
